This is the story of Tom Wilcox, an American Scout, and his love affair with Coring del Pilar, and their awakening to an emerging new world brought about by the Philippine Revolution of 1898. Tom Wilcox was a boarder in Ordonez’s ancestral house, and was sometimes referred to by his paternal grandmother as “el Americano curioso”. It would be Kailua resident Stu Glauberman, Ordonez’s close friend, who would discover the circumstances behind Tom Wilcox’s mission to the Philippines that would spur the writing of this novel. Ordonez was also the author of various publications, and was affiliated with the East West Center and UH Manoa. Despite his travels all over the world, he considered Hawai’i home.
